The world of wine is ever-changing. New producers, regions and wines emerge every year to compete for our attention. Wine doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive, but you have to know where to look to find the best values…..

And who doesn’t love a great deal? These wines weren’t just chosen because they’re wallet-friendly; they also happen to be worth every penny.

Rooiberg Winery Sauvignon Blanc $11.00 South Africa: It’s packed with tropical and passion fruit flavors, juicy mouth feel, with a pleasant lingering finish. A Sauvignon Blanc with a presence. The prior vintages has won golden medals!

Maria Papoila Vinho Verde $16.50 Portugal: There’s a lot of everything going on in here with a super  lime and tangerine character and great structure. The wine’s name is a reference to a 1937 propaganda film about a country girl who comes to the big city and shows the sophisticated urbanites what’s important in life. 90PTS. WINE ENTHUSIAST BUYING GUIDE, FEBRUARY 2016

Albastrele Blanc de Cabernet $12.50 Moldova: For many of you, an opportunity for two “firsts” – your first wine from Moldova and your first pure white wine (not pink – white!) made from the red Cabernet Sauvignon grape, and the result is a pretty compelling  wine! The aromas have some of Sauvignon Blanc’s grapefruit and grass notes but the wine’s texture is more like Albarino (minerally, sleek) and the flavors of creamy sweet strawberry, pineapple and banana suggest something like Verdejo.  Overall this is nicely creamy, fruity and bright. INTERNATIONAL WINE&SPIRIT COMPETITION QUALITY AWARD (IWSC) –  BRONZE MEDAL 2016

Contour Pinot Noir $13.50 California:  This is absolutely the most delicious Pinot Noir you’ve never heard of, but once tasted you’ll never forget it! This is a crowd pleaser worth trying. 87Pts. SILVER MEDAL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – BEST BUY!

Heavyweight Cabernet Sauvignon $14.50 California: These award winners will have you lining up for the next round. This champion is ready to battle its way into your glass tonight! This Heavyweight champ will have you out of your seats and cheering for this…rich and flavorful Cabernet Sauvignon. THIS IS A KNOCKOUT CHAMP!

Kiona Estate Bottled Lemberger $15.50 Red Mountain Washington State: Lemberger from Austria was planted here in the 1970s, and Kiona still carries the torch for the grape. Earthy, gamy, soft and smooth, it has a quickly maturing flavor, built upon chocolate and cherries, with dusty tannins.  90pts. WINE ENTHUSIAST – BEST BUY!
